Blunderbuss

Jack White proves himself to be far from blunderbuss in his debut solo album released on April 23 this year.

In the past he has never been afraid to veer away from the mainstream music trends and he need not be. His music continues to be widely accepted by the masses and rightly so for his sheer musical brilliance flows so naturally from his very soul.

Whilst his first self-titled EP ‘Love Interruption’ has an unmistakeably catchy melody and clever lyrics, by no means is it superior to the remainder of the songs on the album.

From the quirky and humourous ‘Missing Pieces,’ to the amazing display of his famous falsetto in ‘Sixteen Saltines’ that is sure to please any White Stripes fan, to the bluesy ‘I’m Shakin”, Blunderbuss is definitely worth a listen regardless of your preferred style of music. The unique timbre in his voice gives him an edge that comes as a breath of fresh air from the mainstream music charts.

It is also worth mentioning his eerie cover of U2’s heart-wrenching ‘Love is Blindness.’

He should be commended for his bravery in not only performing a cover of a U2 song but by the way in which he seemingly so effortlessly has almost redefined the song as his own. He connects emotionally to the song on such a level that one who has not heard the original could believe that White had written the lyrics himself.

An overwhelming sense of desperation lingers in his voice as he almost whispers ‘I’m too numb to feel.’ White’s passion is a rarity and it will be interesting to see where his incredible talent takes him next.

“These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas” White said.

Jack White is a true artist.

Later this year he will be touring across a range of cities including LA, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Sydney and Melbourne.
